God ratifies His covenant with Abraham in what seems to us most unusual, but highlights the idea that it is God alone who saves us, that there’s nothing you and I can do to earn or add to our salvation. In the Old Testament version of John 3:16, here in Chapter 15 Abraham believes God, and God puts His righteousness upon Abraham, much in the same way that God puts His righteousness upon us as we believe in the person and works of Jesus Christ.
